Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) has scholarships available to attend those courses at Wageningen International?

 The NFP scholarship covers the following costs:

• Tuition fees
• Travel costs
• Full-board accommodation
• Health insurance
• Allowance for personal expenses

 Fellowships are available for candidates from the following Asian countries: Bangladesh , Bhutan , Cambodia , China (excluding Hong Kong and Macao ), India , Indonesia , Mongolia , Nepal , Pakistan , Philippines , Sri Lanka , Thailand and Vietnam .

SNU launched a new scholarship program named 'The Silk Road Scholarship' for prospective foreign students who want to study humanities or social sciences.

The program aims at attracting outstanding students from Middle and Southeast Asia. SNU expects that it will promote lively academic interchanges between eastern and western Asias.

Five graduate students will be recruited every year from Russia, India, Mongolia etc. They will receive 2 years of tuition wave, monthly living expenses and Korean language education support.

The application for Silk Road Scholarship is open during the International Admissions every fall semester.

This program is sponsored by SBS, the third largest broadcasting company in Korea.

Asia-Europe Foudation Youth Partnerships

The ASEF Youth Partnerships is a funding window open to youth organisations in ASEM countries that seek to promote linkages among Youth and youth organisations and encourage a multiplicity of initiatives to strengthen relations between Asian and European Youth at the level of the national organisations and local communities.
The projects implemented under the Youth Partnerships involve youth organisations from ASEM countries working in the field of intercultural dialogue create direct impact on the professional and personal life of the projects' participants, as well as indirectly contribute to the process of raising social awareness and community development.
Which countries are covered under the ASEF Youth Partnerships?

Youth organisations that are based in the 43 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) countries are eligible to apply for the ASEF Youth PARTNERSHIPS. They are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mongolia, Myanmar, Netherlands, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Must projects supported by the ASEF Youth Partnerships involve all the ASEM countries? Can they include participants from countries outside of the ASEM process?
Applicants are encouraged to open up participation to all 43 countries of ASEM. However, we are also aware that some youth organisations may not have the capacity to organise events of that scale. Hence, ASEF will still positively consider applications in connection with activities involving less than 43 ASEM countries, as long as they would involve participants from at least two Asian member countries and two European member countries of ASEM. Proposed activities involving the participation of non-ASEM nationals would not be considered as eligible under the ASEF Youth Connections.

What kind of youth activities can qualify for the ASEF Youth Partnerships?
We are open to both innovative ideas and traditional youth activities. The following activities may be proposed under the ASEF Youth Partnerships:

• (a) Activities and exchanges previously conceived under the banner of the Asia-Europe Youth Co-operation framework, such as the Asia-Europe Youth Camps, Asia-Europe Young Volunteers Exchange, Asia-Europe Youth Explore and the Asia-Europe Youth Training Courses;
• (b) Joint initiatives, youth exchanges and activities as a follow-up to or resulting from the Youth Declaration or Action Plan of an event organised by ASEF, such as the ASEM Youth Dialogue; and
• (c) Other innovative ideas that would carry out the objectives of the grant.

Reuters-IUCN Environmental Media Awards

Reuters Foundation and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) launch 2008 Media Awards for Excellence in Environmental Reporting.

London and Gland, Switzerland, 15 April 2008 (Reuters Foundation/IUCN) – Reuters Foundation and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) launch today the 2008 Media Awards, a worldwide competition aimed at raising global awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues, by encouraging excellence in environmental reporting worldwide. The awards are co-funded by Reuters Foundation, IUCN and COM+ Alliance of Communicators for Sustainable Development.

Previous winners have come from countries as diverse as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, El Salvador, Germany, Great Britain, Kenya, Macedonia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Togo, USA, and Zimbabwe.

"Environmental reporting is a crucial step towards a more sustainable future. Through this competition we are looking for examples of investigative and inspired reporting that helps both decision-makers and the public conserve nature and contribute to human wellbeing," said Julia Marton-Lefèvre, Director General of IUCN.

5,000 US$ cash prize for global winner

Journalists working in print and online media are invited to submit entries to 2008 Reuters-IUCN Media Awards. One winner from each of the six regions – Latin America; North America, including the Caribbean and Oceania; Europe; Asia, including the Middle East; English-speaking Africa; and French-speaking Africa will be invited to attend the Global Awards Ceremony taking place in Barcelona, Spain, during the IUCN World Conservation Congress in October 2008. The global winner will receive a cash prize of US$ 5,000.

All submissions must have been published between 12 September 2006 and 10 June 2008. Candidates may submit one article only, accompanied by an entry form. Entries written in a language other than English, French or Spanish must be accompanied by a translation.

"Communicating the triumphs and tragedies of the unfolding story of man's ability to destroy or preserve his environment is perhaps the most important journalistic endeavour of our times. We want to honour those journalists around the world who are excelling in this work," comments Rosemary Martin, Director Reuters Foundation.

The deadline for entries is 15 June 2008.

How to Enter
Entries can be submitted either directly by authors or be nominated. Where more than one writer produced the article, the lead writer's name should be submitted. Where possible, entries should be submitted by e-mail. Submitting the article in its original print layout does not present an advantage to the jury.

Applicants or nominators will be responsible for submitting a translation with the original article into English, French, or Spanish.

Launched in 2001 by the International Youth Foundation, YouthActionNet® strengthens, supports, and celebrates the role of young people in leading positive change in their communities. Each year, 20 exceptional young social entrepreneurs are selected as YouthActionNet® Global Fellows following a competitive application process. The yearlong Fellowship program includes: 

 

Skill-building:

• A seven-day capacity building retreat in Washington, DC (all expenses paid)

Ph.D Scholarships at Zhejiang University

Zhejiang University is located in the coastal city of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, which lies 180 km away from Shanghai, a metropolitan city in China. As one of the China's Seven ancient capitals, Hangzhou is a world-famous tourist resort praised as "a paradise on earth", boasting very favorable natural conditions, with a mild climate, convenient transportation systems, picturesque scenery and rich cultural heritage.

Paid Announcements Editors encouraged to apply for five-weeks in a U.S. newsroom Editors of newspapers, wire, or online news outlets have until June 1 to apply for the opportunity to spend five weeks in the U.S. working in a professional newsroom. Administered by the International Center for Journalists in partnership with the American Society of Newspaper Editors, the "International Journalism Exchange" program (IJE) is open to editors who have worked in journalism for at least five years, are proficient in English, but have little substantial previous travel to or training in the U.S. The five-week program will begin October 10 with an orientation in Washington, D.C., followed by a newspaper assignment that offers exposure to all the departments of a U.S. newsroom. Application is now open for 2009 MONBUKAGAKUSHO Scholarships !!

■ What is MONBUKAGAKUSHO Scholarships ? ■

• This scheme has 4 categories of scholarships as below.

■ Screening Process ■ ＊ Detailed Schedule

• June 10th: First Examination by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS)
• July 4th: Second Examination by the Embassy of Japan
• July 29-31: Interviews by the Embassy of Japan

■ How to Apply ■

• Please send your application for the first examination to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia by May 30th (Fri).
  
   
• Application forms for the first examination will be available at the Office of Cultural Affairs and Scholarships of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports soon.

April-May	Commencement of MONBUKAGAKUSHO Scholarship PR.
May 9th (Fri) 17:30	Explanatory meeting at Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center(CJCC) with consultation by Ex-MONBUKAGAKUSHO Students
May 30th (Fri)	Closure date for applications for the 1st exam at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS)
June 10th (Tue)	First exam by MoEYS
June 17th (Tue)	Announcement of the 1st exam results at MoEYS
June 30th (Mon)	Closure date for the submission of application forms and necessary documents for the 2nd exam at the Embassy of Japan
July 4th (Mon)	Second exam by the Embassy of Japan at CJCC (Undergraduate, College of Technology and Professional Training College) Let's try the sample examinations from the 2008 second examinations
July 10th (Thu)	-Announcement of the 2nd exam results at the Embassy of Japan -Announcement of document selection results for Research Students at the Embassy of Japan
July 29th (Tue)	Interviews (Research Students)
July 30th (Wed)	Interviews (Undergraduate, College of Technology)
July 31st (Thu)	Interviews (Professional Training College)
August 4th (Mon)	-Announcement of successful candidates who will be recommended by the Embassy of Japan to MONBUKAGAKUSHO -Explanatory meeting for successful candidates at the Embassy of Japan
Beginning of August	Medical check-ups arranged by MoEYS (submission to the Embassy of Japan by August 15th)
August 15th (Fri)	-Closure date for the submission for DIPLOMAs (English) issued (Undergraduate, College of Technology and Professional Training College) necessary documents -Closure date for the submission of "Letters of Acceptance" to the Embassy of Japan (Research Students Only)
